Model Pendidikan Karakter di Perguruan Tinggi: Integrasi Pembelajaran Formal dan Kegiatan Organisasi Mahasiswa (ORMAWA)

Abstract

Character education in higher education continues to face challenges because its implementation primarily emphasizes formal learning, while student organizations have not been systematically integrated into the character development process. Consequently, the internalization of character values has not been fully optimized. This study aimed to develop a character education model by integrating formal learning and student organization activities at Institut KH Badruzzaman Garut. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis involving university leaders, lecturers, student organization advisors, student organization executives, and students. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings indicate that formal learning serves as the foundation for instilling character values, while student organizations function as a medium for internalizing these values through leadership, collaboration, responsibility, and community engagement. These components are further strengthened by a supportive campus culture that promotes values, norms, and exemplary practices. The integration of these three components is conceptualized as the Nested Integration Model, which holistically connects the cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of character development and provides both a conceptual framework and a practical reference for implementing character education in higher education.
